Pietersite is a rare variety of microcrystalline quartz originating from Namibia, characterized by its shimmering bands of blue, gold, and brown. This silica stone contains altered asbestos fibers that create a unique optical effect known as "tiger's eye." Formed millions of years ago through complex geological processes, pietersite is distinguished by its hardness (7 on the Mohs scale) and dense crystalline structure. Namibian deposits are particularly prized for the quality and intensity of their patterns. This stone has a density of approximately 2.65 and a chemical composition dominated by silicon dioxide, with traces of accessory minerals responsible for its distinctive coloration.
