Today, we have no trace of fire agate in antiquity, neither among the Greeks nor the Romans. In the Middle Ages, fire agate was used in alchemy. The etymology of its name comes from a river in Sicily named Akhates where the Greeks and Romans found these stones in abundance. From 2500 to 1500 BC, they traded them and named them "agate."
