Thunderegg agate, or literally "thunder egg", is part of the jasper family. It is found only in places with rhyolitic rocks (only in areas of volcanic activity) and is composed mainly of various jasper, chalcedony and opal.
It is the symbol of the state of Oregon in the USA, but is also found in Australia. It is considered a protective amulet by both American Indians and Australian Aborigines.
