Shungite gets its name from the place where it is extracted, a Russian village named Shunga, located on the shore of Lake Onega.

According to legend, Xenia Godunov, daughter of Tsar Boris Fyodorovich Godunov (1551-1605), could no longer have children. But after drinking water from a spring that flowed from black stones, she regained her fertility and founded a large family.

However, the virtues of this water had been known for at least five centuries thanks to a legend that tells of a star crashing to earth. This star then transformed into water.

Later, in the 18th century, the exploitation of the virtues of this lake and its stones developed thanks to Emperor Peter the Great (1672-1725). Initially, he went there with his doctor to treat his fragile health. He took baths, drank shungite elixir, and his health greatly improved. He regained vitality and energy.

He then decided to fight against the dysentery that was affecting his soldiers. He made them drink shungite solutions renamed Waters of Mars in honor of the Roman god of war. Then, for the last ten years of his life, he had a thermal establishment built near the springs and had many people suffering from epilepsy or uremia treated. Thus, the first thermal cures were born.

In 1996, Americans Robert Curl, Richard Smalley, and Briton Harold Kroto received the Nobel Prize in Chemistry from the Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences. Thanks to their study, they discovered fullerenes (the third known form of carbon), present in the composition of thermal waters, beneficial for certain diseases. The use of shungite in natural preparations provides many benefits.

Shungite exists in the form of two minerals:

    • Silver shungite, very rare, represents only 1% of all shungites. It has a very high fullerene content, about 98%.
    • Black shungite: the most common and most used, and easier to carve due to its low fullerene composition (between 50% and 70%).

It should be noted that when the fullerene concentration is less than 50%, it is referred to as shungite rock and not shungite stone.

Some farmers mix shungite with soil to make a natural mineral fertilizer. Shungite has the property of retaining moisture and provides calcium and phosphorus. Studies have been conducted in Kazakhstan on some farms, and yields have increased by 20 to 40%.

The hardness of shungite is between 3.5 and 4 on the Mohs scale. In comparison, diamond has a hardness of 10, the highest on the same scale.

Its existence dates back more than 2 billion years. It is believed to have originated from the mineralization of plankton. Others claim that shungite is pieces of the planet Phaeton, located between Mars and Jupiter. It was destroyed and gave rise to the asteroid belt. Finally, other researchers have discovered a volcanic origin for shungite.

The main shungite deposit is therefore in Russia, in the village of Shunga, on the shore of Lake Onega.

Shungite is a deep grounding stone. It promotes reconciliation with one's inner self. It eliminates discomfort by finding the reasons for blockages related to childhood traumas. It allows one to move forward in life, to find the courage to overcome difficulties encountered. It provokes a reconciliation with oneself that generates self-esteem, confidence, and assurance.

This beautiful black mineral is said to open its wearer to creativity and success. It is a shield against the harmful energies of certain people. It keeps away jealousy, resentment, and bad influences.

Shungite is a stone with a strong protective power against electromagnetic waves. It neutralizes radiation and disturbances caused by the waves of modern wireless devices (computer, phone, Wi-Fi, etc.). It effectively fights against cosmo-telluric nuisances (faults, groundwater tables, or underground rivers).

Moreover, for information, Régine Martino, a shungite specialist, has written a book entitled "Shungite, energy of life". To work in a serene atmosphere or simply to feel good at home, shungite can be placed everywhere and diffuse its protection.
