Tiger's eye is a striped mineral in yellow and brown colors. It is formed from amosite, which is one of the six varieties of fibers. Silica gradually replaced these fibers through the phenomenon of pseudomorphism (a mineral appearing with the appearance of another).
This stone, like all stones bearing the "eye" denomination, belongs to the microcrystalline quartz family. There are also red-brown bull's eye (which in some cases is a heated tiger's eye), blue-reflecting hawk's eye, and metallic-reflecting iron eye. These stones exhibit remarkable chatoyancy. This is an optical effect formerly called cat's eye.
The name tiger's eye appeared later in Europe, due to its resemblance to the eye of the big cat. In reality, it is the fibers of the stone that display a gradient of colors, changing according to the viewing angle. There is also the golden tiger's eye. This is a tiger's eye with golden yellow colors.
Tiger's eye is an opaque and hard stone. It has a hardness of 7 on the Mohs scale. In comparison, diamond has the highest hardness, 10 on the same scale. Nowadays, this stone is widely used in jewelry making. It is also used in lithotherapy due to its energetic powers.
In lithotherapy, tiger's eye, like many stones containing the "eye" denomination, has strong protective powers. It is also a grounding stone. It protects its wearer from harmful influences by returning them to their sender. Thus, it makes the wearer aware of the consequences of their actions.
This stone develops self-confidence and trust in others. It promotes introspection and helps discover the origin of certain emotional blockages. It reveals the true personalities of the people we interact with. It brings courage and audacity, strengthens determination and self-assurance. By lowering emotional barriers, friendly and romantic relationships become more harmonious.
Tiger's eye brings calm and balance. This mineral helps overcome negative emotions, such as worry, anxiety, restlessness, and shyness. It is ideal for protecting oneself from jealous and envious people. It generates autonomy, strong independence of mind, and great freedom of thought.
This mineral brings energy and vitality. It develops the desire to make plans and achieve goals. It is perfect for students, people in training or retraining. It increases concentration and memorization.
This stone aids creativity and improves open-mindedness. It provides the ability to overcome life's difficulties. It stimulates willpower and allows for better self-affirmation.
