Raw peridot is a crystal of pure green light. In its natural form, gem-quality olivine appears as prismatic crystals or grains of translucent golden green that capture light with remarkable vividness. It is a mineral that comes from the depths, literally: peridot forms in the Earth's mantle more than 50 kilometers beneath our feet and only reaches the surface through volcanic eruptions. It is one of the rare stones that does not form in the crust but in the bowels of the Earth. And what makes peridot even more fascinating is that it is also found in pallasite meteorites, where it crystallized in the mantle of asteroids. It is a stone born in the fire of the depths, be it terrestrial or spatial. The most beautiful specimens come from Zabargad in Egypt (Cleopatra's historical deposit), Pakistan (Kohistan), Myanmar, the United States (Arizona), and China.
In lithotherapy, raw peridot is considered the most direct form of this stone of light. The intact crystalline structure is believed to diffuse an energy of emotional purification, liberation, and joyful renewal more intensely than the polished version. Placed in a living room, it radiates a golden green light that dissolves tension and lightens the atmosphere. On a desk, it helps release accumulated stress and frustrations. Held in the hand during meditation, it opens the heart chakra and the solar plexus chakra with a solar energy that burns toxic emotions like the sun burns the morning mist. Jealousy, resentment, guilt, envy: peridot dissolves them in light and replaces them with gratitude and lightness.
For maintenance, a rinse with clear water and recharging in gentle sunlight or moonlight are sufficient. No acids or chemicals. With a hardness of 6.5 to 7 on the Mohs scale, raw peridot can be handled normally, but avoid placing it next to significantly harder stones.
