Orgonite was initially invented by Karl Welz and refined by Don Croft, all based on earlier work by Wilhelm Reich. He used this term to refer to the universal energy present throughout the cosmos, sometimes positive (POR), sometimes negative (DOR). When orgone is positive, it promotes the flourishing of life; when it is negative, life withers.

It is made from a mixture of metals and carbon-based material (the "matrix"). It usually contains crystals or minerals and sometimes other additives.
