Unakite belongs to the altered granite family. It is composed of aluminum, iron, and calcium silicate. Its inclusions of green epidote, orthose (pink to orange feldspar), and colorless quartz give it a stunning range of colors. Its base hue ranges from yellow-green to dark green, with spots varying from pink to reddish. Its monoclinic crystal system gives it irregularly shaped crystals, resulting in all sorts of forms.
In 1975, geologist M. BRADLEY discovered this fabulous stone in the Unaka Range mountains, located in North Carolina, USA. He then named it unakite. Extracted from hydrothermal, metasomatic, and metamorphic rocks, unakite is a relatively recent stone.
Thus, there are no legends or myths associated with this stone. It is therefore a brand new stone in the eyes of geologists. Sometimes, unakite is confused with epidote. In fact, they are distinguished by the absence of quartz in epidote, which shows very few pink spots due to feldspar.
Unakite has a hardness of 6 to 7 on the Mohs scale. For comparison, diamond has the highest hardness, 10 on the same scale. It is therefore highly prized by jewelers who can work it and create all kinds of jewelry. It is also widely used in the manufacture of statues representing deities, such as Buddha. Its varied and original colors allow for unique creations.
Its main deposits are located in Brazil, South Africa, etc.
Unakite is a stone of resilience. It helps one to rebuild after a bereavement, a romantic failure, or an unfair dismissal. It helps combat feelings of unexplained malaise. It promotes introspection and reconnection with one's inner self. It can thus lift certain blockages due to childhood traumas. It gives the strength to accept and overcome them in order to move forward better in life.
Thus, it is beneficial for people who lack confidence and self-esteem. It restores self-assurance for people who devalue themselves, often following a personal or professional failure. It encourages them to start over, to try again, and not to accept defeat too easily. It helps overcome frustrations resulting from failures.
This stone promotes the evacuation of negative energies, such as anger, resentment, and jealousy. The person becomes more conciliatory and forgives more easily. They open up to others without suspicion and enjoy sharing with them. They show great empathy, compassion, and understanding. Moreover, people suffering from an overly excessive temperament learn to temper their ardor and manage their anger.
Unakite is a stone with remarkable properties, appreciated for centuries.
