Citrine owes its name to the Latin word "citrus," meaning lemon. This name is given to it because of its yellow color. This semi-precious stone is transparent and has a hardness of 7 on the Mohs scale. It belongs to the quartz family and is also known as "yellow clear quartz." It is composed of sodium dioxide and iron, which gives it its beautiful yellow color, ranging from pale to deep.

This natural citrine stone has been known for millennia. Around 480 BC, writings in the Old Testament describe the presence of a citrine on the breastplate of Aaron, brother of Moses. He wore twelve stones on his breastplate, representing the twelve tribes of Israel, one of which was a citrine. Later, the Gregorian calendar linked these twelve stones to the twelve months of the year. Citrine is associated with the month of November.

In a region on the border of Brazil and Bolivia, a legend tells of a sorcerer who captured the cloak of dawn and imprisoned it within a crystal. Annoyed, the sun decided to hide it deep within the Earth, which later became the mine of the Ayoero tribe. They extracted citrine from this mine.
Later, the princess of this tribe, named Anahi and a descendant of the sorcerer, fell in love with a Spanish conquistador, but her people refused to let her leave. They preferred to sacrifice her rather than see her go to Spain. As Anahi lay dying in her husband's arms, she gave him a citrine stone, a symbol of their eternal love. In the 19th century, miners who worked in this mine recounted that sometimes they could hear the conquistador weeping for his sweet and tender wife, Anahi.

The benefits of citrine have been known since antiquity. In ancient civilizations, it was considered a true talisman. It was believed to ward off bad luck and protect against the bites of venomous animals.

In Ancient Greece, various mythological heroes, such as Chiron, are associated with natural citrine. Chiron, son of the god Cronus, is renowned for his wisdom and knowledge. Artemis and Apollo taught him medicine and how to fully understand nature and its properties. He discovered that natural citrine possessed great healing and protective powers. However, it could not alleviate the suffering caused by the poisoned arrow that tragically struck him and ultimately led to his death.

Furthermore, the Romans used this stone in the making of cuts and cabochons. They also believed that natural citrine protected them from animal bites, venomous insects, bad luck, and negative emotions.

In the 15th century, the name citrine was given to the stone by the German scholar Georges Bauer, also known as Agricola.

In the 19th century, citrine was used extensively in combs and tiaras. Queen Victoria of England (1819-1901) was particularly fond of this stone because of its luminous color.

The main deposits are located in Madagascar, Brazil, Congo, etc.

In crystal healing, natural citrine is an energizing stone for both body and mind. This stone is luminous, warm, and soothes various emotional disturbances. It promotes serenity and enhances concentration and memory. Therefore, it is recommended for students preparing for exams.

This stone is ideal for highly sensitive people. It encourages good management of negative emotions, stimulates a positive mood and well-being. It dispels sadness, nervousness, and fatigue. It diminishes anger and replaces it with understanding or compassion.

The color of citrine is associated with that of the sun. Literally and figuratively, this stone brings sunshine into your life, bringing happiness and joy. It is even said to bring prosperity to the home and contribute to financial success.

It radiates positive energies that boost the vitality of the wearer. It restores their self-confidence and enhances their self-esteem. This beautiful energy reduces stress and its various symptoms. It increases the ability to listen to others and significantly improves relationships and interactions with those around them.
