Also called Corsite or Napoleonite, orbicular diorite exhibits characteristic spherical structures known as orbicules. Its chemical composition is intermediate between that of a diorite and a gabbro. The light-colored minerals are calcic plagioclase feldspars of the anorthite and bytownite type, while the dark-colored minerals are amphiboles of the hornblende type, as well as pyroxenes. Orbicular diorite is known to have been used in the construction of Napoleon I's tomb at Les Invalides and the Medici funerary chapel in Florence.
