Genuine bull's eye stone belongs to the quartzite family. It is composed of silicon dioxide and crocidolite, which gives it its fibrous appearance.

During the crystallization of bull's-eye, crocidolite, composed primarily of iron, incorporates silica and hydrothermal solutions. Through the process of pseudomorphosis, crocidolite transforms and loses its toxicity.

It is possible to encounter a bull's eye stone which is actually a tiger's eye stone heated by human hands, in order to give it its incredible red and dark red colors.

However, this heating phenomenon can occur naturally. This bull's-eye stone may be the result of a metamorphic transformation due to changes in the physical and chemical elements of its geological environment. It has evolved in response to changes in pressure and temperature, and therefore naturally displays this beautiful reddish-brown color.

Thus, it seems that bull's eye, whether heated by hand or in its natural environment, possesses the same properties. This stone has a hardness of 7 on the Mohs scale. In comparison, diamond has the highest hardness, at 10 on the same scale.

Bull's-eye stone owes its name to its shape and reflections, which can evoke the eye of a bull or ox. Indeed, this stone is also sometimes called ox eye. This stone is associated with the Minotaur in Greek mythology.

The Minotaur is a monster with the body of a man and the head of a bull. He is imprisoned by Minos in the labyrinth built by Daedalus. Daedalus did not want the Minotaur to be discovered, and the creature was tasked with protecting his labyrinth. Later, the Minotaur is killed by Theseus, a hero of Attica, son of Poseidon and Aethra.

During archaeological excavations, talismans made from bull's eye stone were discovered. This stone served as protection for Roman soldiers. It made them stronger and gave them vitality and strength. It protected them from poisons, stings, venomous bites, and even death.

In the Middle East, bull's eye was used for protection against negative energies, curses, and evil spirits.
