Jasper is a sedimentary rock containing 80 to 95% silica, often classified with microcrystalline quartz, but which can also contain clay. It is composed of chalcedonic radiolarians embedded in a chalcedony cement. Its fracture is scaly, sometimes conchoidal. Jasper can have several appearances: spotted, banded, red (or oriental), with red spots on a green background, black (Sicilian), etc. Its essential characteristic is its wide range of natural colors; it can be estimated, a priori, that no color is impossible for jasper.
Its places of origin: France, India, Egypt, the United States, CIS countries, and Africa.
