Very beautiful celestial eye obsidian in a drop shape, approximately 35-45mm, pierced with a stainless steel bail.

Obsidian is a silica-rich volcanic rock. Different types of obsidian exist, varying due to the rock's chemical composition. Obsidian is actually a natural glass. It forms during a silica-rich lava eruption with less than 3% water. Upon exiting the volcano, it undergoes very rapid cooling, freezing the crystallization process. 
This can be compared to a piece of lava suddenly solidified upon exiting the volcano. The direct consequence of this phenomenon is the inability of the rock to crystallize. The result is the creation of a volcanic glass with a uniform texture, qualified as an amorphous mineral. Furthermore, obsidian has sharp edges and very fine blades. It is a natural mineral with a complex composition.  
Thus, obsidian is essentially composed of silicon dioxide, about 70% or more. Its fracture is conchoidal (i.e., grooved with curved and concentric striations) and its hardness is 5 to 5.5 on the Mohs scale. It has different colors and reflections due to the volcano where it was discovered and its various inclusions. It should be noted that each deposit, linked to a volcano, provides a different obsidian.   
Green, brown, gray, or black, it can sometimes have golden, silver, or even all the colors of the rainbow reflections (an effect produced by the presence of hematites or magnesites). Sometimes, two colors of obsidian also blend.
Celestial eye obsidian is also called rainbow obsidian. It is a black obsidian with color zones ranging from purple to green.
Celestial eye obsidian is the result of a rare phenomenon: the contact of lava with water when lava flows into a lake or ocean. The thermal shock then causes a vitreous texture. Thus, the trapped iron and magnesium create a mix of rainbow colors. 
Celestial eye obsidian is a natural glass. This volcanic stone solidified in a layer up to 40 cm thick. When the stone is cut into a sphere, the reflections represent concentric circles that evoke eyes. In the United States, it is preferred to call it rainbow obsidian due to its multiple colors.
When nanoparticles of elements (feldspar, hedenbergite, magnetite, etc.) are deposited in layers, an optical effect occurs. Light penetrating the obsidian becomes trapped in the natural glass. A rainbow effect occurs, giving the stone its soft colors. An eye shape is observed when the stone is polished.
