Collection: Ametrine

Ametrine is a fascinating semiprecious stone, both for its beauty and its unique composition. Here's what you need to know:

🌈 What is ametrine?

Ametrine is a variety of quartz that combines two stones into one :

  • Amethyst (purple)

  • Citrine (yellow to orange)

Both colors occur naturally in a single stone, forming distinct zones or spectacular gradients.

🧪 Formation and composition

  • Chemical composition : Silicon dioxide (SiO₂), like all quartz.

  • Hardness : 7 on the Mohs scale → quite resistant.

  • Origin of colors :

    • The purple color comes from iron and exposure to low temperature.

    • The yellow color (citrine) also comes from iron, but formed at a higher temperature .

  • Process : Ametrine forms when a temperature variation affects different parts of the same quartz crystal during its growth.

🌍 Origin

  • Almost all natural ametrine comes from Bolivia , from the Anahí mine , famous for this two-tone gem.

  • Synthetic ametrine, made in a laboratory, can also be found.

💎 Use and symbolism

Jewelry

  • Highly prized in jewelry for its unique two-tone reflections.

  • Cut to highlight the contrast between purple and yellow.

Symbolism and lithotherapy

  • Amethyst : serenity, intuition, wisdom.

  • Citrine : joy, energy, prosperity.
➡️ Ametrine is seen as a stone of balance , uniting intuition and mental clarity.

Ametrine refers to a gem variety of quartz which is not a variety of amethyst but a mixture of citrine and amethyst. It has very diverse colors ranging from yellows to the range of lilacs and deep purples. In gem cutting, we mainly look for transition zones between two colors, in order to obtain two-tone stones.
