Azurite is a mineral species composed of copper carbonate with the formula Cu3(CO3)2(OH)2. Azurite has been known for more than 4500 years, there are traces of powdered azurite in ointment pots Egyptians of the 4th dynasty. The Romans referred to it as lapis armenius. It is the description of François Sulpice Beudant in 1824 which refers; he gave it the name azurite, from the Persian Lazhward = blue, in allusion to its color. Malachite is a mineral species from the group of mineral carbonates and the subgroup of anhydrous carbonates with foreign anions of formula Cu2(CO3)(OH). )2.Malachite was cited by Pliny in 77 AD. The name of this mineral comes from the Latin malachites through the ancient Greek of molochē, variant of malachē, “mauve”, in allusion to its color similar to that of the leaves of Mauve.
