Collection: Black kyanite

Black kyanite, also known as black cyanite , black disthene or black kyanite in English, is a variety of cyanite, a mineral of the aluminum silicate group. It is distinguished from the more common blue cyanite by its dark color, often black, dark gray or brownish, and by its fibrous fan or radiating blade shape.

🔬 Mineralogical characteristics:

  • Chemical formula : Al₂SiO₅ (aluminum silicate)

  • Crystal system : Triclinic

  • Color : Black, very dark gray

  • Hardness : Variable (approximately 4.5 in the direction of the fibers, up to 7 in the perpendicular direction)

  • Density : Approximately 3.6 to 3.7

  • Luster : Vitreous to pearly

  • Cleavage : Perfect in one direction

🗺️ Origin and deposits:

Black kyanite is usually found in aluminum-rich metamorphic rocks (such as schists) and sometimes in pegmatites . The main deposits include:

  • In Brazil

  • In the United States

  • In India

  • In Nepal

  • In South Africa

  • In France (rare)

🌿 Properties and uses (lithotherapy):

Black cyanite is often used for its grounding and energetic protection properties:

  • Would act as a cleaner of negative energies

  • Would promote the balance of the chakras , especially the root chakra

  • Would help with the alignment of subtle bodies and meditation

  • Would not require purification (according to some traditions), because it “cleans itself”

💎 In jewelry stores:

Black kyanite is rarely used in traditional jewelry because it is brittle and difficult to cut. It is instead worn in its raw form (pendants, talismans, energy wands, etc.).
