Fuchsite (or fuchsite ) is a variety of mica , a mineral from the phyllosilicate group. It is mainly composed of muscovite (white mica), but what distinguishes it is the presence of chromium , which gives it its characteristic beautiful green color .

Main features:

• Color : light green to emerald green, due to chromium.

• Shine : pearly to silky.

• Hardness : 2 to 3 on the Mohs scale (relatively soft).

• Structure : lamellar or flaky, meaning it can separate into thin layers.

• Transparency : translucent to opaque.

Formation and deposits:

Fuchsite typically forms in aluminum-rich metamorphic rocks, such as schists and quartzites. It is often found associated with minerals such as quartz, kyanite, or ruby.

The main deposits are located:

• in Brazil ,

• in India ,

• in Russia ,

• in South Africa ,

• and sometimes in the French Alps .

Use :

• Lithotherapy : it is attributed with calming virtues, helping with emotional healing, creativity and compassion.

• Ornamentation : used in jewelry (cabochons), decorative objects or as a collector's stone.

• Famous variety : Green aventurine may contain inclusions of fuchsia, which gives it its sparkling shine.

Historical anecdote:

Its name comes from the mineralogist Johann Nepomuk von Fuchs (1774–1856), who studied this mineral.
