Hypersthene is a silicate mineral of the pyroxene family, more precisely orthopyroxenes . Its name comes from the Greek hyper ("above") and sthenos ("strength"), in reference to its relatively high hardness.

🔍 Main Features

  • Chemical formula : (Mg,Fe)SiO₃

  • Crystal system : Orthorhombic

  • Color : Brown, dark green, gray, sometimes almost black

  • Luster : Metallic or glassy

  • Hardness : 5.5 to 6 on the Mohs scale

  • Density : Approximately 3.4 to 3.9

Hypersthene is a common inosilicate in rocks belonging to the orthorhombic pyroxene group. Its name comes from ancient Greek and means “very powerful”.

Hypersthene is a mysterious and powerful black stone. We could designate it as the stone of clairvoyance, because it is a powerful catalyst of astral light and it promotes and amplifies the perception of invisible worlds. Its magnetism attracts occult forces. It is also, just like black tourmaline, a powerful protector against negative influences and waves.
