Iron eye is a stone resulting from a mixture of several minerals. It is also called hematoid jasper. This brown and golden mineral is a derivative of tiger's eye. It is composed of hematite and magnetite, tiger's eye, and red jasper.

Hematite and magnetite are iron oxides that give the stone its dark, metallic appearance. Tiger's eye adds magnificent golden inclusions. And finally, jasper provides a beautiful red hue.

Iron eye is an aggregate of minerals arranged in layers that form patterns resembling golden landscapes. As a reminder, an aggregate is "the combination of distinct elements that form a whole." The dominant elements are ferrous oxides. They are responsible for this beautiful metallic luster, hence the name of the stone, "iron eye."

This stone alone combines the powers and benefits of three different minerals:

• Red jasper, which has a high concentration of iron dioxide, gives it its incredible red color. It is made up of 85% silica and belongs to the quartzite family;

The formation of the Iron Eye occurred approximately 3 billion years ago. This rock underwent metamorphic crushing of sediments rich in quartz and limonite. In fact, its structure was altered by the action of heat and pressure. Note: limonite is a compound of iron and clay oxides and hydroxides.

Its folded band structure and hardness are the result of tectonic movements, intense heat and pressure that this rock underwent during the metamorphosis process.

Iron tiger's eye has a hardness of 7 on the Mohs scale. The highest hardness, 10, is that of diamond. It can therefore be worked by jewelers in the creation of jewelry such as rings, bracelets, and pendants.
