Atacama Opal
Atacama opal is a mixture of opalite, chrysocolla and chalcedony, whose intense blue-green color is due to copper.
At the place where the raw material was discovered (near Copiapó and Paipote in the Atacama Region of northern Chile), the stone is called Atacama opal or Atacama opalite; this name has also become established in the international mineral trade.
The small deposits of atacamaopal are mainly transformed into jewelry.
