Raw fluorite is one of the most spectacular minerals to collect. In its natural form, it crystallizes into perfect cubes or octahedrons (eight-sided double pyramids), fascinatingly regular geometric shapes that nature produces without any human intervention. And these crystals display breathtaking colors: deep purple, emerald green, sky blue, golden yellow, sometimes several hues in the same crystal, with color zones succeeding one another layer after layer. It is the stone that gave birth to the word fluorescence: in 1852, physicist George Stokes observed that fluorite emitted visible light under ultraviolet radiation, a phenomenon he named after this mineral. Shine a UV lamp on raw fluorite and you will see this magic with your own eyes.
In lithotherapy, raw fluorite is considered the most powerful form of the "genius stone." The intact crystalline structure, with its perfect geometries, is said to diffuse an energy of concentration, mental structuring, and intellectual clarity even more directly than the polished version. Placed on a desk, it helps organize thoughts and maintain focus during long work sessions. In a study area, it aids revisions and the absorption of new knowledge. Fluorite octahedrons are particularly prized in meditation for their sacred shape symbolizing balance and harmony. Held in the hand, raw fluorite helps structure thought and find solutions to complex problems.
For care, be careful: raw fluorite is fragile with a hardness of 4 on the Mohs scale and perfect cleavage in four directions. Never place it next to harder stones, do not drop it, and handle it gently. Clean it with a soft, slightly damp cloth and recharge it in moonlight. Avoid prolonged direct sunlight, which can fade some colors.
