Rough calcite is a festival of colors and shapes to display at home. In its natural form, calcite crystallizes into rhombohedra (slanted parallelepipeds), scalenohedra (dogtooth-like shapes), or compact masses, with colors ranging from flamboyant orange to honey yellow, pastel blue to soft green, and gentle pink to milky white. It is one of the most abundant minerals on Earth, yet one of the most spectacular in collections. Rough orange calcite is particularly impressive: its warm translucency allows light to pass through like a small sun sitting on the shelf. And if you have a transparent calcite (Icelandic spar), place it on text: you will see the letters double thanks to its birefringence, a fascinating optical phenomenon that the Vikings used for navigation.
In lithotherapy, rough calcite is considered a powerful energy amplifier and accelerator. Each color works on a specific chakra: rough orange calcite activates the sacral chakra (creativity, joy, vitality), yellow boosts the solar plexus (confidence, willpower), blue soothes the throat chakra (gentle communication), and green opens the heart chakra (emotional openness). Placed in a room, rough calcite amplifies ambient energy and clears stagnation. On a desk, it stimulates and energizes the workspace. In meditation, held in the hand, it accelerates work on the targeted chakra.
For care, be careful: calcite is fragile with a hardness of 3 on the Mohs scale. Never place it next to harder stones, do not drop it, and never put it in salt or vinegar. A soft, slightly damp cloth for cleaning and lunar light for recharging are sufficient. Avoid prolonged water exposure and direct sunlight, which can fade certain colors.
