Raw garnet is one of the most satisfying raw stones to hold. In its natural form, garnet often crystallizes into dodecahedra (12 faces) or trapezohedra (24 faces), naturally regular and fascinating geometric shapes. These dark red crystals, sometimes still embedded in their matrix rock, have a raw and powerful appeal that pleases both collectors and lithotherapy practitioners. The name garnet comes from the Latin granatum (pomegranate), and when you see a cluster of small raw garnet crystals emerging from the rock, the resemblance to the fruit's seeds is striking. The most beautiful specimens come from India, Madagascar, Brazil, and Mozambique.
In lithotherapy, raw garnet is considered the most intense form of this fire stone. Its intact crystalline structure is believed to diffuse an energy of vitality, regeneration, and passion more directly and deeply than the polished version. Placed on a desk, it provides an energy of endurance and determination that helps with long-term projects. In a living space, it warms the atmosphere and revitalizes the environment. Held in the hand during meditation, it activates the root chakra and powerfully rekindles life force. The natural dodecahedral forms of garnet are also used by some practitioners as healing tools, placed on the body to stimulate energy circulation.
For maintenance, raw garnet is an easy-care stone. A rinse with clear water and recharging in sunlight or on a quartz cluster are sufficient. With a hardness of 6.5 to 7.5 on the Mohs scale, it can be handled without special precautions.
