Citrine is a variety of quartz, whose yellow color is due to the presence of tiny amounts of iron oxides in the mineral. Citrine is quite rarely found in its natural state. Most often it is heated amethyst which takes on a yellow color instead of violet. The term comes from the Latin citrus which designates lemon, in reference to its color.
