Phantom Quartz
Phantom quartz is a fascinating variety of quartz that contains internal inclusions shaped like phantom crystals , hence its name. These inclusions resemble ghostly crystals within another crystal , often visible as silhouettes or outlines of partially formed crystals.
🌿 Origin of the name
The name "phantom quartz" comes from the fact that inside the main crystal, you can see "ghost-like" shapes—older crystals encapsulated during the growth of the main quartz.
🔍 Features
-
Composition: Silicon dioxide (SiO₂), like all quartz.
-
Colors: Translucent to transparent, with inclusions that can be white, green, gray, red or brown depending on the minerals present (chlorite, hematite, etc.).
-
Appearance: "Stacked" crystals, often in the form of phantom pyramids within the main crystal.
🧪 Training
Phantom quartz forms when the crystallization process is temporarily interrupted . During this pause, a thin layer of minerals may be deposited on the growing crystal. When growth resumes, quartz covers this layer, trapping the previous forms within.
