Collection: Stibine

Stibnite is a relatively well-known mineral, especially to geologists, mineral collectors, and mining industry professionals.

🌑 Name and Composition

  • Name: Stibine (or stibnite in English)

  • Chemical formula: Sb₂S₃ (antimony trisulfide)

  • Mineral class: Sulfides

🔬 Physical characteristics

  • Color: Steel gray to lead black

  • Shine: Metallic

  • Hardness (Mohs scale): 2 (very soft, scratchable with a fingernail)

  • Density: Approx. 4.6 g/cm³ (heavy)

  • Cleavage: Perfect, which allows the mineral to split easily along certain planes

  • Crystallization: Orthorhombic system

  • Appearance: Elongated crystals, sometimes needle-like or fibrous masses

📍 Deposits and origin

  • Origin: Mineral typical of hydrothermal deposits , often associated with minerals such as galena, pyrite or cinnabar.

  • Main deposits:

    • China (one of the world's largest producers)

    • Japan

    • Bolivia

    • Mexico

    • Russia

    • France (formerly, e.g. in Salsigne)

⚙️ Uses

  • Main source of antimony (Sb) , an element used:

    • in alloys (to harden lead)

    • as a flame retardant

    • in some semiconductors

    • in batteries and batteries

  • Former use: In the manufacture of cosmetics (kohl), although this is dangerous because of its toxicity.

⚠️ Toxicity

  • CAUTION: Stibnite is toxic , especially in cases of prolonged exposure or ingestion.

  • Dust can be dangerous to the lungs.

  • Antimony is a metalloid that is potentially harmful to the environment.

🎨 Interest for collectors

  • Highly prized for its brilliant, well-formed crystals .

  • Must be kept away from moisture as it may degrade on the surface over time.

Stibnite is a mineral species composed of antimony sulfide. Stibnite forms a series with bismuthinite.

The first written record comes from Pliny in 77. It was François Sulpice Beudant who invented the term stibnite, from the Greek “STIBI” = or the Latin “STIBIUM”, the old name for antimony. Its main deposits are located in South Africa, Bolivia, France and Japan.

Stibine is a stone of protection against evil forces. When meditating in unknown or evil areas, it is fundamental to protect yourself well. Schorl (black Tourmaline) and Obsidian are the basis of all protection but Stibine is a formidable weapon against the manifestations of evil. She acts in close protection.

It creates an impenetrable barrier around the etheric body.
