Vesuvianite, also known as idocrase , is a rather fascinating silicate mineral , both for its chemical composition and for its aesthetic qualities in jewelry.

🔹 Origin of the name

  • The name vesuvianite comes from Mount Vesuvius , the famous volcano in Italy, where the mineral was first discovered.

  • The name idocrase (less used today) comes from the Greek eidos (form) and krasis (mixture), because this mineral can resemble others.
