Topaz belongs to the silicate group. It comes in all colors depending on whether it contains iron, chromium, magnesium, or titanium.
Imperial topaz is orange to gold in color.
Its name comes from the Greek topazos or "topos azos" "desert place" where it was first discovered.
The name "Imperial" supposedly originated from one of the Russian tsars who appropriated the entire Russian production and associated it with the name "Imperial."
It is found mainly in Brazil, Pakistan, the United States, Madagascar, Russia, China, and many African countries, but also in France. In ancient Egypt, it was believed to embody the sun god Ra.
