Bronzite is a mineral variety from the pyroxene group, more precisely from the enstatite family . It is a magnesium and iron silicate (Mg,Fe)SiO₃.

  • Color : bronze-brown, sometimes greenish or golden.

  • Shine : Silky to metallic (especially after polishing).

  • Hardness : 5.5 to 6 on the Mohs scale.

  • Crystal system : orthorhombic.

Bronzite is formed mainly in:

  • igneous rocks such as peridotites, gabbros and norites,

  • high-temperature metamorphic rocks ,

  • some meteorites (it is sometimes detected in chondrites).

Chemical formula:
(Mg,Fe)SiO₃
It is a variety of enstatite enriched with iron. The more iron there is, the more pronounced the bronze tint.
