Collection: Jasper Bumble Bee

Bumblebee Jasper, also known as bumblebee jasper , is a very distinctive and visually striking stone. Despite its name, it is not strictly speaking a jasper , nor even a quartz, but rather a mixture of minerals of volcanic origin.

🔬 Origin and composition

  • Main origin : Indonesia, particularly in the region of the Papandayan volcano in Java.

  • Formation : Bumble bee jasper forms in volcanic fumaroles, openings near volcanoes that release gases.

  • Composition : A complex blend of minerals:

    • Aragonite (white)

    • Sulfur (bright yellow)

    • Orpiment and realgar (yellow/orange – caution: contain arsenic)

    • Manganese and other oxides (grey, black)

💡 Caution : Due to the presence of arsenic and sulfur, this stone can be toxic if handled or worked without care (dust, filing, etc.). For normal use (polished jewelry, tumbled stones), it is considered safe, provided it is not put in water or put in the mouth.

🎨 Appearance

  • Colors : Bright bands of yellow, orange, black, white and sometimes gray.

  • Appearance : Striped or wave-like pattern, very similar to the coat of a bumblebee, hence its name.
