Peristerite stone is a particular variety of feldspar , belonging more precisely to the plagioclase feldspar family. It is also called white labradorite or rainbow moonstone ,


🔹 Origin of the name

The name peristerite comes from the Greek "peristera" , which means "dove", in reference to the iridescent reflections reminiscent of the plumage of this bird.


🔹 Physical characteristics

  • Mineralogical family : Plagioclase feldspar (tectosilicate group)

  • Color : White to pale gray, often with bluish, silvery or iridescent reflections (so-called "schiller" or adularescence effect)

  • Transparency : Translucent to opaque

  • Hardness : 6 to 6.5 on the Mohs scale

  • Cleavage : Perfect

  • Crystal system : Triclinic

Peristerite is known for its iridescent effect , due to the interference of light between microscopic internal layers. This effect is similar to that of moonstone or labradorite, which can be confusing.
